A ceramic coin bank designed by the American artist and designer Malcolm Leland (born 1922) for NS Gustan. The coin bank depicts a cartoon-style alien with two metal spring antenna protruding from the top of the head. A crescent-shaped smile is cut into the surface, and the eyes and nose gently protrude from the sculpture. The body features two small arms on either side. A small coin slot is on the back and a hole about 2" in diameter is cut into the bottom.

Malcolm Leland is an American sculptor from Columbus, Ohio. He attended art school before serving as a pilot in World War II. Upon his return, Leland moved to California and founded Malcolm Leland Ceramics. Over time, the artist became increasingly drawn to structure. His 1957 design for the L.A. Hall of Records began a decades-long career in architectural design, defining the facades and textural elements of many Southern California buildings and plazas.
