Josef Mikl Signed Limited Edition Abstract Lithograph with Hand-Coloring

A limited edition lithograph print by the Austrian artist Josef Mikl (1929-2008). Signed to the lower right, this abstract lithograph features stacked black geometric shapes hand-colored in bright orange and red. Numbered 6/12, the print is inscribed "For Carolyn Lockwood" to the lower left. The print is initialed "M" in the print to the lower left and is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and a dark blue mat.

Born in Vienna, Mikl studied at Die Graphische in Vienne from 1946 to 1948. Afterward, he attended the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna until 1955 where he studied under Josef Dobrowsky. Later, he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1969 to 1997. Mikl was a member of the Vienna Art Club and the International Art Club and received many awards and honors, including the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art in 1990 and the City of Vienna's Ring of Honor in 2004. Mikl also received several high profile commissions, including representing Austria at the 1968 Venice Biennale and designing the stained glass window in the Peace Church at Hiroshima in 1959.

Condition notes:

Age appropriate wear. Scratches and nicks in the frame, frames corners are slightly disjointed. There is some discoloration to the paper. A small tear is present in the print to the lower right. There is a discolored spot to the upper left.
