Shirley Witebsky Signed Artist’s Proof “Crystal” Abstract Color Etching


An artist's proof abstract color etching titled Crystal by American artist Shirley Witebsky (1925-1966). The aquatint depicts an irregularly shaped orb amassed with various amoeba-like black structures intersected by jagged vertical and transverse lines. Pastel colors illuminate the color field. Displayed behind an off-white mat in a wood frame, the aquatint is signed and titled to the lower edge.

Shirley Witebsky was a sculptor and printmaker born in Minneapolis, MN. She studied art at the University of Minneapolis and Atelier 17. Witebsky participated in the First International Sculpture Symposium in North America in Montreal, Canada in 1964 and created a sculpture for Mount-Royal Park. Witebsky's work is displayed at Long Beach and Oregon State University, California State University, Brooklyn Museum, and the National Gallery of Art.

Scratches, scuffs, nicks, and other wear to the frame. There is some gilt flaking off the frame.
