Otto (1915-2009) and Vivika Heino (1910-1995) owned and operated a ceramics studio as a team from 1950 until her death in 1995. Otto studied ceramics on the G.I. Bill in Concord, N.H., at the League of New Hampshire Arts and Crafts. Vivika Timeriasieff (Place) was his teacher at the League, and would later become his wife. They moved to California in 1950, where they taught and produced ceramics. In 1973, they established "The Pottery," their workshop and gallery in Ojai. The pair signed their work “Vivika and Otto,” regardless of who created the piece.
