Jack Levine “Meditation” Portrait Etching

A portrait etching by the American artist Jack Levine (1915-2020). Titled Meditation, this etching depicts a figure gazing off to the side while resting their chin on their hand. Signed to the lower right, the print is numbered 158/250 to the lower left and is displayed in a black frame and a white mat.

Jack Levine was an American painter who specialized in satirical and social commentary regarding class systems and authority structures in the west. Levine enrolled in art classes at the Museum Fine Arts School of Boston and received free art lessons from Dr. Denman Ross of Harvard University who recognized his exceptional talent. Unlike many artists of the time period Levine did not stray from figural subject matter for abstract compositions. His work can now be found int he collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. among others.
