Arthur Deshaies 1955 Signed Oil on Canvas Abstract Painting


An oil on canvas painting by the American artist Arthur Deshaies (1920-2011). Signed to the lower right and dated 1955, this abstract painting features a bright yellow and tan background with dynamic black design at the center. Black and white brushwork accent the central design along the top and right side. The painting is displayed in a black frame.

Born in Rhode Island, Arthur Deshaies studied at the Cooper Union Art School until the outbreak of World War II. During World War II, Deshaies served as a paratrooper as well as an official war artist. After returning from the war, he studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and later Indiana University. Deshaies taught art at Indiana University, Florida State University, the Pratt Institute, and the Ogunquit School of Painting and Sculpture.
