Piza developed a love for different printmaking techniques, include intaglio and engraving, after taking part in the first São Paulo Biennale in 1952. The following year, he moved to Paris to train under Johnny Friedlander, an important figure in the printmaking world. Piza's career took off in the late 1950s, when he began to exhibit his work across Europe and back home, in Brazil.
