Beni E. Kosh 1965 Signed “Jeu Huit” Abstract Oil on Board Painting


A 1965 abstract oil on board painting by American artist Beni E. Kosh (Alias Charles Elmer Harris, 1917-1993). The abstract painting depicts overlapping brown, yellow, and white forms and lines against a variegated yellow background. The painting is mounted in a wooden box frame. Signed "Beni Kosh", titled Jeu Huit and dated "65" to the bottom right corner.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1917, Charles Elmer Harris later changed his name to Beni E. Kosh, meaning "Son of Ethiopia". Kosh studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and later worked with the “Sho Nuff Art Group”. His work was unrecognized during his lifetime.

Condition notes:

Loss of color/some chipping to the paint around the edges of the board. Minor discoloration throughout. Overall age appropriate scratches, scuffs and marks to the frame.
