Morris Barazani Signed Abstract Acrylic on Canvas Painting
An abstract acrylic on canvas painting by American artist Morris Barazani (1924-2015). Predominately painted in primary colors, this painting depicts bold geometric shapes that appear to project from the canvas. Wide bands of brushwork overlap and connect vertically upon a blue ground in this abstract work. The painting is displayed in a wooden frame and is signed "Barazani" to the bottom edge.
After serving in the United States Navy during WWII, Morris Barazani studied at the Chicago Institute of Design. He became active in Chicago's Modernist art community during the 1950s and started the art department at DePaul University in the late 1960s. Soon after he became the director of the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois' Chicago Circle Campus. Barazani is known for his drawings, paintings, and collages that moved from Bauhaus influence into abstract expressionism through his career.
