A 1966 abstract oil mixed media painting on paper affixed to canvas by American artist John Franklin Koenig (1924 -2008). Signed and dated to the bottom, the painting features a composition of black, white, and blue abstract designs on brown paper affixed to canvas. The painting is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame.
Born in Seattle, Koenig was studying at the University of Washington in 1943 when he was drafted in the U.S. Army for to fight in World War II. After serving in the army, he returned to his studies at the University of Washington and then later was able to study at the Sorbonne in Paris through the G.I. Bill. In 1952, Koenig began exhibiting his work and had over 150 one-man shows during his lifetime. He received the Prix Critiques Art de Presse Parisienne at the Bienalle of Paris and was named in France an Officer de l'Ordre des Arts et es Lettres.
