A signed oil on board painting by American artist Harry Engel (1901-1968). This Cubist style painting features multiple figures populating the interior of several spaces within an architectural structure. Deep colors of red, green, and black with lighter accents of blue and gray are displayed. The painting is presented in a gold tone wood frame and signed "Harry Engel" to the bottom right corner.
Born in Romania, Engel came to the United States with his family as a child. He later studied art in Paris and then went on to study at Notre Dame and Columbia. Known specifically for his encaustic paintings, Engel's works have been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Detroit Institute of Art, and the Grand Palais in Paris.
