A 1960s mixed media collage on board by American artist Michael Baum (1933-2021). The black checkered collage features blue pencil stenciled numbers in alternating squares. Each alternating square depicts the numbers one through twenty-three horizontally in numerical order on black paper and masonite. The artist tag is attached verso. 

Lifelong artist and craftsman, Michael Baum was originally from New York and exhibited widely in the 1960s. Baum attended the University of Georgia and later art school in New York where he met his future artist wife, Reiko Sakagami. Baum opened a framing company before becoming the owner and horse breeder of Man O' War Farm in Lexington, KY, where he lived out his life.

Intentional creasing to paper. Other signs of intentional distressing, discoloration, and wear. Chips around the edges.
