Virginia Scotchie Signed Green Studio Pottery Sculpture
$425.00
A work of abstract ceramic sculpture by American contemporary artist Virginia Scotchie. A footed vessel supports a cactus leaf-like extension on one side. Full and partial holes are evenly distributed throughout the surface. The green glaze is formulated to separate unpredictably, resulting in a richly textured, crackled effect. Signed "V. Scotchie" to the underside.
Virginia Scotchie received her MFA in ceramics from Alfred University in 1985. Scotchie has shown in 30+ solo or two person shows throughout her career, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art and Vallauris Institute of Art in Vallauris, France. Scotchie maintains an active studio practice; she has participated in residencies both domestically and internationally. Her work is extensively published in magazines and journals. Scotchie served on the Board of Directors of NCECA, the National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts, from 1987-1991. Since 1992, Scotchie has served as a Professor and Head of the Sculpture Department at University of South Carolina.
