An abstract 2002 oil on paper painting titled Warlord by Spanish artist Dennis Hollingsworth (born 1956). This work by Hollingsworth is representative of the artist's notable and unique style comprised of bright hues and thick impasto. Through technically masterful application of oil paint, the composition features both illusionistic and three-dimensional depth. Yellow, pink and red gum-like layers are built atop a foundation of blue, brown and red paint. Titled verso. Unsigned, acquired from the estate of Kansas City, Missouri art dealer Jan Weiner.

Dennis Hollingsworth was born in Madrid, Spain in 1956. He studied architecture as an undergraduate at California Polytechnic University. In 1991, he earned his MFA from Claremont Graduate School in Claremont, California. Since graduating, Hollingsworth has maintained a consistent domestic and international exhibition record. Notably, he has shown in more than 50 solo shows of his work in half as many years. Hollingsworth's works are held in collections including the Netherlands' Akzonobel Collection in Amsterdam, the Coleccion Riera Roura in Spain, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, California.
