An abstract wooden sculpture by American artist Doris Vlasek-Hails (1938-2004). Signed and dated "VLASEK HAILS 84" to the base, this work most notably features a curving serpent, traveling vertically up the piece. A gray and red stripe is depicted on the sides of the sculpture. A circle design near the base compliments the stripe. The top of the sculpture runs perpendicular to the rest of the base, with an abstracted design in gray.
Doris Vlasek-Hails was born in Chicago during an upswing of abstracted design. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Vlasek-Hails went on to teach at modern-day Herron School of Art and Design, as well as opening the Indianapolis art gallery Woodburn and Westcott Contemporary Fine Art.
