E. Michael Zolpe 1965 Signed Encaustic and Oil on Canvas Abstract Painting


A 1965 encaustic and oil on canvas painting by the American artist E. Michael Zolpe (1927-2007). Titled Memories of Things Past or Organic Explosion, this frenetic abstract painting is painted with thick impasto and features colorful shapes amidst undulating black lines. Signed to the lower right, the painting is dated 1965 to the verso. The painting is displayed in a simple wooden frame and is also signed and titled to the verso.

Zolpe studied at the University of Chicago where he received a Master of Fine Arts degree. He taught at numerous institutions, including St. John's College, the Santa Fe School of Arts and Crafts, and the New Mexico Highlands University.
