Haku Maki 1971 “Poem 71-6 (Thousand)” Woodblock Print

A 1971 woodblock print by the Japanese artist Haku Maki (1924-2000). Titled Poem 71-6 (Thousand), this work depicts a simple composition with a kanji-inspired design near the center and a yellow dot to the upper left corner of the piece. The print is signed at the lower right, numbered 144/151 at the lower left, and titled in the lower center. It is displayed in a wooden frame and a white mat. 

Haku Maki was a prolific Japanese artist of the 20th century. His birth name was Maejima Tadaaki but he selected the name Haku Maki in the late 1950s to go by. Many museums have Maki's work in their collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Portland Art Museum, Cincinnati Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Art Museum.
