Haku Maki Signed 1970 “Poem 70-59 (tree)” Embossed Woodblock Print


A 1970 embossed woodblock print by Japanese artist Haku Maki (1924-2000). Signed and titled Poem 70-59 to the lower right corner, this work is also numbered 69/201 to the lower left corner. The background of the print is black in color with a green shape with Asian characters located at the center. An orange circle is to the lower right of the green design, as well as an orange design at the bottom left of the composition.

Haku Maki was a prolific Japanese artist of the 20th century. His birth name was Maejima Tadaaki but he selected the name Haku Maki in the late 1950s to go by. Many museums have Maki's work in their collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Portland Art Museum, Cincinnati Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Art Museum.
