Harris Strong Mid-Century Ceramic Horse Vase


A ceramic horse vase designed by Harris Strong. The cone-shaped glazed vase features a hand-painted brown horse upon a light brown background. The vase is marked “A20 Strong” to the underside.

Born in Waukesha, Wisconsin on July 6, 1920, Harris Strong began his scholastic career at North Carolina State University receiving a chemical engineering degree and later studied ceramics at New York University. He was inspired by his aunt to become an artist and started his own business Potters of Wall Street. Early on Strong found success with decorative ceramic tiles and eventually moved into other forms of wall décor. His growing company motivated Strong to move Potters of Wall Street to Ellsworth, Maine where he and his family resided until his death in October of 2006.
