An oil on board abstract painting by American artist Harry Engel (1901-1968). Signed to the lower right, this work depicts an abstract scene with recognizable elements of buildings, sailboat masts, and other imagery. The color palette is mostly neutral with accents of bright yellow, orange, green, blue, and red. The painting is displayed in a black frame.
Born in Romania, Harry Engel came to the United States with his family as a child. He later studied art in Paris and then went on to study at Notre Dame and Columbia. Known specifically for his encaustic paintings, Engel's works have been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Detroit Institute of Art, and the Grand Palais in Paris.
