Harry Hilson Signed Abstract Batik of Boat and Dolphins

$900.00

An abstract batik of boat and dolphins inspired by ancient Greek imagery by American artist Harry Hilson (1935-2004). The background is comprised of a purple, orange, and white pattern. A wooden sail boat is central to the scene, with a curly-haired bearded man reclined aboard. The sail is abstracted, transitioning into a wave-like shape. Four dolphins are depicted in the composition, with two in each top corner and two swimming alongside the boat. Signed bottom left, the batik is framed in a simple white wooden frame.

Harry Hilson was active from the 1950s-1990s. He created a variety of works, including oil paintings, ink drawings, wool tapestries, wax paintings, video art, sculpture, and more. His studios could be found in New York, California, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. Hilson and his wife, Jane, also ran a framing company called Fine Art Inc.
