An abstract batik by the American artist Harry Hilson (1935-2004). The batik depicts an owl standing tall at the center of the composition in brown and orange. The background of the piece has a repeated flower pattern. The batik is displayed in a black wooden frame and is signed to one of the owl's legs. 

Harry Hilson was active from the 1950s-2000. He created a variety of works, including oil paintings, ink drawings, wool tapestries, and more. His studios could be found in New York, Los Angeles, and Aspen.

 

Measurements:

25.5” x 40.75” x 1.5” (frame); 24” x 39.5” (batik).

Condition notes:

Age appropriate wear. Scratches and scuffs to the frame. Small holes in the batik along the top and one on the beak. Some loose threads to the lower left corner.
