A Brutalist studio pottery and metal sculpture by the American artist James Eugene Pearson (1939-2017). Signed "Pearson" on the side, this abstract sculpture depicts a female figure with infant. Made predominantly of stoneware, the figure's neck and shoulder area is made of metal.
Born in Woodstock, Illinois, James Eugene Pearson studied at Northern Illinois University, Temple University, and Ithaca College. He also studied art throughout Europe as well as Asia. Pearson exhibited widely during his lifetime including at the Carnegie Institute; the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi, Belgium; the Palais de la Scale in Monte Carlo, Monaco; as well as others.

Condition notes:
Rust and other wear to the metal. Some chipping in the stoneware around the lower metal piece that attaches the face. Other age appropriate wear.
