John Axton Signed 1993 “Winter Light” Oil on Board Painting

A 1993 oil on board painting by American artist John Axton (born 1947). Signed to the lower right corner and titled Winter Light, Axton has created a serene scene of light trickling in to a dark room through a single window. The back wall and floor are dark blue in color, contrasted by the yellow light of the window. The opposing walls on the right and left areas of the composition are lighter blue. Signed, dated, and titled verso, the painting is displayed in a wooden frame with a linen liner.

John Axton graduated from Southern Illinois University's commercial art program. He moved from Illinois to New Mexico in 1979 and takes influence from Southwestern culture. Axton is known for minimal landscapes that create a feeling of peace.
