John Clague Abstract Brutalist Bronze Sculpture

An abstract Brutalist bronze sculpture by American artist John Clague (1928-2004). Made of bronze, the sculpture has an attached concrete and stone base. The vertical composition of this spiked piece features a stack of bird-like designs. A green patina is present to the bronze throughout. Unsigned, the work is from the artist’s wife’s collection.

John Clague was born in Ohio and attended the Cleveland Institute of Art. Later, he taught sculpture at Oberlin College and his alma mater, acting as the chairman of the school's sculpture department. His work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Cleveland Museum of Art, and is part of the archival collection of the Smithsonian Institution.
