John Hultberg 1991 “Video Tower” Mixed Media Painting

A 1991 mixed media painting titled, Video Tower, by American artist John Hultberg (1922-2005).  Composed of acrylic, crayon, ink, collage, and watercolor, the two paintings depict a rainbow of color within hard black lines. A white ghostly silhouette is presented behind one mat. The opposite depicts an exterior angle of a tower. Each painting is initialed and dated to the lower right corner. The paintings are presented behind white mat in a natural finish wood frame. 

American artist, lecturer, and playwright John Hultberg studied at Fresno State College and California School of Fine Arts after WWII where he served as a Navy Lieutenant.  His teachers constituted Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still. A member of the "Sausalito Six", Hultberg is known for his surrealism, abstract expressionism, and minimalistic paintings. His work is held in many collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Guggenheim Museum.

Condition notes:

Slight rippling of the paper. Some scratches and nicks on the frame.
