A limited edition color lithograph by the Dutch artist Karel Appel (1921-2006). This vibrant abstract composition depicts a portrait of a figure with blue face, black eyes, and a colorful body. Initialed "KA" to the lower left, the print is numbered 218/300 to the lower right. The print is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and a black mat.
Born in Amsterdam, Appel studied art at the Royal Academy in Amsterdam during the early 1940s. In 1952, he won the UNESCO Prize at the Venice Biennale and in 1960, he won first prize at the Guggenheim International Exhibition. Appel moved to Paris in 1958 and in 1959, he began staying part of each year in New York. His works have been exhibited worldwide, including at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
