Karel Appel Signed Limited Edition "Cat in the Night" Color Lithograph


A signed limited edition color lithograph by the Dutch artist Karel Appel (1921-2006). Titled Cat in the Night, this colorful and vibrant abstract print depicts a cat in stripes of blue, green, red, pink, and white against a black background. Signed to the lower right, the print is numbered 17/125 and is displayed in a silver tone metal frame. 

Born in Amsterdam, Appel studied art at the Royal Academy in Amsterdam during the early 1940s. In 1952, he won the UNESCO Prize at the Venice Biennale and in 1960 he won first prize at the Guggenheim International Exhibition. Appel moved to Paris in 1958 and in 1959, he began staying part of each year in New York. His works have been exhibited worldwide, including at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
