A 1984 limited edition linocut by the Japanese-American artist Kyohei Inukai (1913-1985). Titled Mr. C and published by Associated American Artists, the black and white print depicts a deconstructed portrait of a cat. Signed "165/250" to the lower right and numbered to the lower left, the print is displayed in a gold tone wood frame.
The third son of two artists who met at the Chicago Art Institute, Kyohei Inukai’s talent was apparent at eight years old. During his own time at the Chicago Art Institute and after, he developed a mastery of illustration, painting, printing, etching, woodcut, sculpture, and writing. Over the course of 50 years, Inukai showed his work in solo exhibitions from Kansas to New York City. According to his website, “Kyohei passed away in 1985 a relatively unknown artist. He was a brilliant, gentle man who was averse to promoting himself.”
