Marek Halter Signed 1959 Oil on Canvas Abstract Still Life Painting


A 1959 oil on canvas abstract still life painting by Polish artist Marek Halter (born 1936). Signed and dated to the upper right corner, this vibrant scene depicts a vase full of yellow flowers, a ripe pear, and an oil lamp, against a pink and white checkered pattern. A blue and green background compliments the peaceful scene. The painting  is displayed in a black wooden frame.

Marek Halter is best known for his political activism, on top of being a writer and artist. Fleeing Poland during World War II, Halter lived in Russia, Ukraine, and France and has exhibited worldwide. In 1991, Halter started the French College in Moscow, becoming the school's president in 2007.

Condition notes:

Age appropriate wear. Crack to left side of frame, scratches also present. Age appropriate wear to painting. Craquelure present, restoration work has been done to stabilize it. Canvas has been relined.
