A mixed media landscape painting by American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989). Displayed behind a cream mat in a gold tone wood and linen frame, the painting depicts layered frenetic lines of watercolor, gouache, and marker. The painting has an estate stamp to the verso.
Born in Cleves, Ohio, Chidlaw was primarily known as an Abstract Expressionist artist. After studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Chidlaw moved to France where he was able to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Fountainbleau and later under the tutelage of the artists Jean Despujols and Andre L'Hote in Paris. After returning to the United States, he worked as a WPA artist painting murals and after WWII, he began teaching at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.

Condition:
Minor scuffs on glass. Pencil marks on mat. Small tears on fabric edge of frame.
