Paul Chidlaw Oil Pastel Abstract Drawing
An oil pastel abstract drawing by American painter Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989). The drawing features intertwined pastels in aqua blue, red, peach, pink, and purple. The estate stamp is visible to the verso. The drawing is presented in a gold tone wooden frame with a white mat.
Born in Cleves, Ohio, Chidlaw was primarily known as an Abstract Expressionist artist. After studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Chidlaw moved to France where he was able to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Fountainbleau and later under the tutelage of the artists Jean Despujols and Andre L'Hote in Paris. After returning to the United States, he worked as a WPA artist painting murals and after WWII, he began teaching at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
