Paul Chidlaw Red and Black Abstract Serigraph


An abstract serigraph by American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989). This non-objective color print features layers of black and red upon white. The serigraph is displayed in a cream mat with a gold tone wooden frame. An estate stamp is present to verso. 

Born in Cleves, Ohio, Chidlaw was primarily known as an Abstract Expressionist artist. After studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Chidlaw moved to France where he was able to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Fountainbleau and later under the tutelage of the artists Jean Despujols and Andre L'Hote in Paris. After returning to the United States, he worked as a WPA artist painting murals and after WWII, he began teaching at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
