A signed charcoal drawing by American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989). This dynamic drawing features a group of abstract figures and is signed to the lower center. Displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and cream mat.
Born in Cleves, Ohio, Chidlaw was primarily known as an Abstract Expressionist artist. After studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Chidlaw moved to France where he was able to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Fountainbleau and later under the tutelage of the artists Jean Despujols and Andre L'Hote in Paris. After returning to the United States, he worked as a WPA artist painting murals and after WWII, he began teaching at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
