Paul Chidlaw Signed Mixed Media Abstract Drawing
A mixed media drawing by the American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989). Signed to the lower right, this crayon and marker abstract drawing features colorful frenetic lines throughout. The drawing is displayed in a black and gold tone wooden frame and a white mat.
Born in Cleves, Ohio, Chidlaw was primarily known as an Abstract Expressionist artist. After studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Chidlaw moved to France where he was able to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Fountainbleau and later under the tutelage of the artists Jean Despujols and Andre L'Hote in Paris. After returning to the United States, he worked as a WPA artist painting murals and after WWII, he began teaching at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
