Paul Chidlaw Signed Abstract Pastel and Marker Drawing


A signed abstract pastel and marker drawing by the American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989). This colorful drawing features frenetic and layered lines and signed to the lower right. The drawing is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and a white mat.

Born in Cleves, Ohio, Chidlaw was primarily known as an Abstract Expressionist artist. After studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Chidlaw moved to France where he was able to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Fountainbleau and later under the tutelage of the artists Jean Despujols and Andre L'Hote in Paris. After returning to the United States, he worked as a WPA artist painting murals and after WWII, he began teaching at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
