A limited edition signed abstract serigraph of Jerusalem by Israeli artist Shmuel Katz (1926-2010). Signed “S. Katz” lower right and numbered 147/200 lower left, this print depicts an abstracted Jerusalem, with a purple sky with trees. Buildings are depicted in the foreground and background, with ladders and wires draping across the composition. The print is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame with a cream mat.
Shmuel Katz was known for being an artist, cartoonist, and illustrator. Katz was a Holocaust survivor, moving from Austria to Palestine during imprisonment at a concentration camp. While imprisoned, he sketched soldiers on guard and at war, as well as depictions of Jerusalem. Today, his work can be found in the collection of Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Authority.
