Walter Sorge Signed Limited Edition Abstract Color Etching


A green and brown etching of overlapping geometric forms by Canadian artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). Richly textured, each contrasting plane is layered with patterns which resemble engraving, static, rust, crazing and other varied surface treatments. Signed "Sorge" and numbered 3/30 on the front.

Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.

Wear around the edges. Artists tape present along the top edge, does not affect art. Small stain to the page upper right corner. Discoloration to verso.
