Toshiko Takaezu Signed Studio Pottery Bowl

This product is sold out

A studio pottery bowl by American ceramist Toshiko Takaezu (1922-2011).  The cobalt blue bowl features a layered gunmetal and sand-hued exterior. The bowl is signed to the underside.

Of Japanese descent, Toshiko Takaezu viewed ceramics as fine art and is considered one of the greatest abstract artists of her time. A recognized sculptor, painter, educator, and ceramic artist, Takaezu honed her artistic inclination early. She attended Honolulu Museum of Art School, the University of Hawaii where she studied under Claude Horan, and Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan where ceramist Maija Grotell mentored Takaezu. Takaezu viewed her passion simply stating "In my life, I see no difference between making pots, cooking and growing vegetables... there is need for me to work in clay... it gives me answers for my life."
