Virginia Scotchie Signed Pink and Brown Studio Pottery Sculpture


A work of abstract ceramic sculpture by American contemporary artist Virginia Scotchie. A large pink conical shape with a fluted mouth and two lower spouts is grounded by an attached brown bowl shape and a separate circular base. The pink glaze is matte and features a crackled texture, while the brown glaze is smooth and has a flat sheen. Each piece is signed "V. Scotchie" to the underside.

Virginia Scotchie received her MFA in ceramics from Alfred University in 1985. Scotchie has shown in 30+ solo or two person shows throughout her career, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art and Vallauris Institute of Art in Vallauris, France.  Scotchie maintains an active studio practice; she has participated in residencies both domestically and internationally. Her work is extensively published in magazines and journals. Scotchie served on the Board of Directors of NCECA, the National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts, from 1987-1991. Since 1992, Scotchie has served as a Professor and Head of the Sculpture Department at University of South Carolina.

Condition notes:

Discoloration, scratches, and scuffs throughout. Irregular application of glaze contributes to inconsistencies in texture.
