Virginia Scotchie Signed Yellow Studio Pottery Sculpture
A work of abstract ceramic sculpture by American contemporary artist Virginia Scotchie. Four yellow spheres are stacked vertically with two spouts extending from the bottom sphere. One hole is present on one side of the third sphere. Gray and blue glaze accents, which are reminiscent of watercolor, accent the surface. Signed "V. Scotchie" to the underside.
Virginia Scotchie received her MFA in ceramics from Alfred University in 1985. Scotchie has shown in 30+ solo or two person shows throughout her career, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art and Vallauris Institute of Art in Vallauris, France. Scotchie maintains an active studio practice; she has participated in residencies both domestically and internationally. Her work is extensively published in magazines and journals. Scotchie served on the Board of Directors of NCECA, the National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts, from 1987-1991. Since 1992, Scotchie has served as a Professor and Head of the Sculpture Department at University of South Carolina.
