An art glass bear sculpture by Italian artist Walter Furlan (1931-2018). The dark brown scavo glass bear is posed in an upright position upon a round base with detailed facial and body structure. The piece is signed to the underside "W Furlan". 

Walter Furlan, known for stylized and submerged glass sculpture, was an apprentice to the great glass artist Romano Tosi. Furlan admired artists such as Chagall, Modigliani, and Picasso which led him to reproduce glass after their pictorial subjects. Pablo Picasso authorized Furlan to interpret his Cubist paintings through glass sculpture during the 1970s.
