Walter Sorge Signed “Fire Bush” Mixed Media Painting

An abstract pink gouache and watercolor painting entitled Fire Bush by American artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). The overall surface is comprised of biomorphic, rounded shapes which ebb and flow edge to edge across the work's surface. Variable shades of pink are separated by charcoal accents. Signed "Sorge" and titled to the lower right corner of the work. Presented behind a white mat in a silver tone frame.

Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.
