Walter Sorge Signed “Dancing Figures” Limited Edition Abstract Etching


A mid-century limited edition abstract etching titled, Dancing Figures, by Canadian artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). A group of figures bend and twist with their hair flowing freely in an atmospheric landscape. The etching is titled, numbered "21/40", and signed "Sorge" to the bottom. The etching is presented behind navy blue mat in a wood frame. 

Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.

Condition notes:

Some waviness to the paper. Overall age appropriate scratches, scuffs and marks to the frame and plexiglass. Some adhesive to verso of frame.
