Walter Sorge Signed Limited Edition “Dancing Figures” Color Etching

An abstract color etching by Canadian artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). Gestural lines create figures that bend and twist in space. Signed "Sorge" and titled to the bottom of the plate, the print is displayed in a blue and gold tone wooden frame with an off-white mat.

Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.
