A deep black etching of abstracted botanical specimens entitled Plant Formations by Canadian artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). A group of intertwined and connected botanical shapes with frenetic lines fill the landscape. Signed "Sorge" and titled on the front. This is an artist's proof.

Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.

19.75" x 25.5" .1" (paper); 13.5" x 13.5" (plate). 

Condition notes:

Wear and bends along the paper edge. A quarter inch tear on the lower left corner of the paper. Minor small markings within the border. Markings to the back.
