Walter Sorge Signed “Red Horses” Abstract Watercolor Painting
An abstract watercolor by Canadian artist Walter Sorge (1931-2021). Gestural lines and washes of bright pink and orange depict three horses against a blue ground. Displayed in a black metal frame, the painting is signed "Sorge" to the lower edge and is titled Red Horses.
Born in Alberta, Canada, Walter Felix Sorge attended UCLA and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from there during the 1950s. He continued his education at Columbia University in New York where he received his Doctorate in Fine Art and Fine Art Education. Sorge also studied under Stanley William Hayter in Paris and worked at Atelier 17. He later had an extensive career as an art educator and served as head of the art department at Kentucky Southern College in Louisville, the head of the art department at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, as well as chairman of the art department at Eastern Illinois University. Sorge exhibited widely during his lifetime in the United States and abroad.
