Al Bright Signed 2002 “Forcefield Blues” Abstract Oil on Canvas Painting

A large oil on canvas painting by the American artist Al Bright (1940-2019). Titled Forcefield Blues, this monumental work uses vibrant blues punctuated with red and bright yellow-green. Circle designs float amidst the waves of color in the composition. Signed and dated to the bottom edge, the painting is titled to the verso and displayed in a wooden frame.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Alfred "Al" Lee Bright was an educator at Youngstown State University for over 40 years. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in art education from Youngstown State University in 1964 and a year later in 1965, he graduated with a graduate degree in painting from Kent State University. Bright joined the faculty at Youngstown State University where he became the first full-time African-American faculty member. In 1970, he was also the founder of the University's Africana/Black Studies program, one of the first of its kind in Ohio. In addition to his teaching, Bright continued to paint throughout his life and his works are in the collections of the Butler Institute of American Art, the Harmon and Harriet Kelly Collection of African-American Art, the Canton Museum of Art, as well as others.

Some discolored spots to lower edge of painting. Wear to frame including some chips, scratches, white paint, and small splits in the wood. Other wear present.
