A clay sculpture by the French sculptor Henri Albert Lagriffoul (1907-1981). Signed "Lagriffoul" to the underside, the sculpture depicts a seated nude woman with her legs crossed.
Born in Paris in 1907, Lagriffoul studied at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1924-25 and was part of the studios of Jules Coutan and Paul Landowski. Between 1926 and 1931, Lagriffoul assisted Landowski with his statue Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1932, he won the Prix de Rome in sculpture. Other awards Lagriffoul received were the gold medal at the Exposition coloniale in 1931 and the gold medal at the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Technique in 1937. In 1944, Lagriffoul became a professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Lagriffoul was also a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur and a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
