A metal Brutalist patchwork coffee table with slate top designed by the American designer Paul Evans (1931-1987) for Directional. This substantial coffee table is made from a wooden base with a mixed metal patchwork design wrapped over the wood. A large piece of slate is inlaid to the top. The design for this table is part of Evans' Patchwork Copper, Pewter and Brass series for Directional.
Paul Evans attended the Philadelphia Textile Institute, the Rochester Institute of Technology, and Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 1964, Evans became a featured designer for the manufacturer Directional Furniture. His most iconic designs include the Argente, Sculpted Bronze, Sculpted and Painted Steel, Patchwork Copper, Pewter and Brass, and Cityscape series for Directional.

Condition notes:
Scuffs, scratches, and age appropriate discoloration throughout. Intentional tarnish, scratches, and other wear to metal base. Some chips and scratches in slate top.
